self-introduction blog

Hi everyone, my name is Saksham. I’m 22 years old and currently studying at the University of Victoria, where I’m majoring in economics and minoring in business studies.

I was born and raised in Punjab, India, and at 18 years old, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life — moving to Canada to pursue my education. Like many international students, the transition came with excitement, uncertainty, challenges, and countless learning experiences. Leaving home, adapting to a new culture, and building a life from scratch taught me independence and resilience in ways I never imagined.

Outside academics, one of my biggest passions is food. For the past three years, I’ve been working part-time as a line cook, and it has become much more than just a job for me. Working in a fast-paced kitchen has taught me discipline, teamwork, and how food can bring people together regardless of background or culture. There’s something special about creating meals that make people happy, even during stressful days.

In my free time, I enjoy reading about geopolitics, global economics, and international affairs. I’m fascinated by how countries, policies, and world events shape everyday life and future opportunities. I also genuinely enjoy meeting new people, hearing different perspectives, and building connections with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
